How to permanently redact information from a PDF
Secure redaction must remove information from the result rather than merely cover it on screen. JunoPDF exports a new flattened copy of redacted pages.
Find every sensitive item
Review names, addresses, identification numbers, signatures, images and repeated occurrences. For scanned documents, OCR can help with discovery, but every page still needs visual review.
Use the Redact tool
Mark the complete area containing confidential information. Do not substitute highlights, ordinary shapes or cropping for redaction.
Export and verify in a second reader
Open the new copy, search for removed text and try to select or copy it. Check properties, attachments, annotations and links separately before sharing.
What redaction produces
Affected pages are rendered into a new flattened PDF. Redacted visible content is not retained as selectable text underneath the covered area.
What is not secure redaction
Black rectangles, highlights, cropping and overlaid text may leave the original information accessible. Visual redaction also does not automatically remove every metadata field or attachment.

Does a black rectangle really remove the text?
Not necessarily. A rectangle, highlight or crop may only hide content visually. Use the dedicated redaction export, which creates a new flattened copy.
How do I verify that redaction is permanent?
Open the exported copy in a second PDF reader. Search for the removed text, try to select and copy it, and inspect every page before sharing the file.
Does redaction automatically remove all metadata?
Do not treat redaction as complete document sanitization. Check properties, attachments, annotations, links and other non-visible information separately.
Is the PDF uploaded to a server?
